Weight Loss Programs Make You Hungry.

The problem with weight loss programs is they all concentrate, one way or another, on you cutting your calories to the bone. In the process they all make you hungrier.

weight loss motivationAnd none of them teach you how to keep the weight off. They tell you to count points. Or jump through magic hoops. Or have you buy their special weight loss meals – which is their preferred option, because that is how they stay in business. Their “special” meals = $360/month.

If you can afford that, and can put up with the inevitable monotony, then go ahead. But, in the end, you will still be just as hungry.

In fact, given the enzymes and hormones their form of weight loss evokes, count on you always having the munchies. And no amount of will power is going to overcome it.

Sooner or later, you will begin to eat based on your old style eating habits. And soon the extra pounds re-appear, plus some new ones come along for the ride.

In the long run, do weight loss programs really make your day lighter?

Boyd, a recovering Attorney, turned to weight loss research 20 years ago when he lost his mother to the lifelong effects of obesity. He has spent the ensuing years searching the science, and formulating a comprehensive metabolic map of the body — the only complete map of its kind. The map reveals the causes and effects of obesity and related chronic lifestyle diseases. It shows the only proven pathways to preventing and losing excess weight. From that unique foundation, he and his team created a weight loss education program that has helped tens of thousands to lose weight and keep it off. Plus, they created innovative and fun fitness and nutrition education programs for elementary school children, proven to reduce the early bio-markers for childhood obesity. HEART PLAN is a collection of his observations over the years of the emotional impact and motivational challenges nearly everyone faces when trying to keep lost weight off permanently.

  1. i have tried allot of them in the past.. and yea it was all me being hungrier.. when i put myself on my own plan i did awesome.

  2. We try to eat as clean and healthy as often as possible. I don’t believe programs work, it is more about lifestyle changes.

  3. Thanks for sharing. Heading over to check out the articles now.

  4. I always say eat all you want as long as you put in the exercise to meet your goals. Diets do not work. Ever. Read the studies.

  5. I always think it is best to eat at home and cook your own foods but sometimes that is not always the options. I just review the Diet-to-go meals and I loved them.

  6. Same here, those plan didn’t work for me either, the best way is just eat healthy and exercise. Thank you so much for the great post ^_^

  7. Making healthy food choices and staying active is the key. I also try to eat less carbs – because I LOVE potatoes and bread! Thanks for the post

  8. I have tried far too many diets and I agree, they just are not sustainable. I am trying to lose more weight now that my last baby is walking. Slow and steady is my goal.

  9. As you said, the plans are created to change your habits. If you do not, there will be no success. It isn’t the plans that don;t work ,but the people

  10. I found that counting calories, eating more veggies, and exercising to be the best plan to lose weight. As you are counting calories, you will learn to make it to fit your lifestyle. I lost weight even when I ate out. 😉

  11. Those extreme diet plans never work. I’ve found that simply watching calories (not cutting to the extreme) and doing some cardio every day is the best way to go.

  12. As I have often been heard to say–I can lose 20 lbs on ANY weight loss program–then soon gain it back again plus some. Over the years I have tried umpteen weight loss programs and found my statement and this writers statement to be all too true!

  13. I personally think people shouldn’t think much about weight loss but changing their own lifestyle.

  14. I agree! I think we need not to modify and starve ourselves. We need to make intelligent choices and healthy ones too!

  15. I’m working on eating better and becoming more active. I cut down on soda and I notice weight coming off just by doing that in the beginning.

  16. It’s true–weight loss programs DO make you hungry. I dunno why, but anytime I have tried to go on a diet my appetite exponentially grows!

  17. I know exactly what you mean, especially the part where you gain back all the weight you lost. 🙁

  18. It’s definitely changing my whole lifestyle for me as well as healthy eating.

  19. It is very true about joining those weight loss programs as it does not address the true problem. Developing a healthy relationship with food is definitely the first step.

  20. I like using myfitnesspal. Just makes me accountable for the exercise and food my body gets. I really like it.

  21. Wow, $360 a month is a little steep. I know if I’m cutting back a bit I try to think of healthy foods I love, and how great for me they are to eat. That makes me feel better than thinking of junk I can’t have. Seems if I tell myself I can’t eat something, I want to.

  22. Such a great post! I have been on a few of those weight loss meal programs and I was hungry and irritable all the time!

  23. I am too cheap to want to pay for any of those programs anyways. Plus, I prefer to make lifestyle changes to my diet, not temporary ones.

  24. I have used several programs and I wind up gaining most of it back. I have since decided to make my better eating habits a lifetime change not just bounce back and forth.

  25. I totally agree! I’ve technically never been on a diet, just do the calorie counting thing because I know that if I did some of the diets I would die of hunger 🙂

  26. I haven’t been on any kind of a diet but just decided to start eating alot healthier. I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and I have lost 9 lbs. in the last two months. i was so proud. I am eating healthy, not starving myself.

  27. Isn’t this the truth!! Dieting is so difficult for so many people because they do get so hungry and cave so easily!! I”m going to share this with a friend that is going through this right now. Thanks so much for the post.

  28. Thanks for all of the info, it’s very important to have a healthy heart.

  29. I don’t believe in dieting or weight loss programs. I believe in consistency and progress making lifestyle changes that are conducive to lasting health results.

  30. I think all the counting can help in the short term. However, for the long term, it’s not practical.

  31. Heading over to check out the the published chapter. I was just getting ready to restart my weight management plan.

  32. Good points. Most diets focus on the loss. Not sustaining it. No wonder there are so many yoyo dieters

  33. I’ve always gotten frustrated with them. I try to eat clean an unprocessed now and am doing well.

  34. I’ve found that eating a sensible amount of food 5 times a day (every 3 hours = 1400 calories) and exercising daily helps keep me at a good weight. Most weight loss programs focus on the numbers and not enough on the types of food and what kind of exercise a person is getting. Sure, 20 minutes of exercise is good, but if all you’re doing is walking 2 miles an hour on the treadmill, that isn’t going to do a whole lot of good in terms of creating a calorie deficit.

  35. This is so true! ( I am running about 15 miles a week for weight loss) and I keep treating myself to chocolate afterwards!

  36. i dont really believe programs work it is works somehow because the programs told them to do so but when the time comes they cannot afford to follow it anymore they will go back and gain again. or much better change their lifestyle fulltime!

  37. I’m looking into doing protein shakes and possible those full bars to still have my minimum calories, but also keep full. It’s not really easy changing up my diet, but I’ve found it easier to gradually change it rather than just shock my system with a whole new program.
