Tie A String Around Your Waist
Ideas to weigh less – to live life more.
An experiment was conducted on hospital patients who remained ambulatory but in the hospital for long stays. The staff secretly removed the waist string on the hospital pants of half the patients, chosen at random. Those without the waist string gained 5 pounds more than those with the string.
Lesson for weight loss? Don’t upsize your clothes. Say to yourself, “This size and no further.”
Would NOT upsizing your clothes make your day lighter?
Put two strings on the floor.
Try this experiment with a gathering of your friends, men and women. Get two colors of strings. Have everyone take a length of the first colored string and put it on the floor. Have them lay it out as a circle on the floor, to show the circumference of the size they “estimate” their body is at its widest place.
Now, take the different colored string, and have them put it around the widest place on their body. Tie a knot in it to mark the right place, to remember exactly how long the second “actual” measurement string is.
Finally, take the second “actual size ” string and put it on the floor in a concentric circle with the first “estimate size” string.
Which circle is on the outside?
Who was more accurate, the men or the women?
Would two strings on your floor help make your day lighter?

Boyd, a recovering Attorney, turned to weight loss research 20 years ago when he lost his mother to the lifelong effects of obesity. He has spent the ensuing years searching the science, and formulating a comprehensive metabolic map of the body — the only complete map of its kind. The map reveals the causes and effects of obesity and related chronic lifestyle diseases. It shows the only proven pathways to preventing and losing excess weight. From that unique foundation, he and his team created a weight loss education program that has helped tens of thousands to lose weight and keep it off. Plus, they created innovative and fun fitness and nutrition education programs for elementary school children, proven to reduce the early bio-markers for childhood obesity. HEART PLAN is a collection of his observations over the years of the emotional impact and motivational challenges nearly everyone faces when trying to keep lost weight off permanently.

I’m not sure if two strings on the floor would help. BUT a string tied around my waist certainly would!
I wonder how effective this would be for me. I am going to try it, because I really could use all the help I can get as far as weight loss goes. I don’t want to go any further than I am.
That is a rather interesting experiment with the string. I think males and females were equally inaccurate but in opposite directions.
I am certain this would help me! I used to buy my clothes a little baggy — then I tend to grow into them!! So I stopped doing that.
This is a great idea. If you have a something slightly tight on your body, chances are you will work hard to keep it from getting tighter. Thank you for sharing.
The hardest thing about losing weight is getting in the right mind set to do so.
Yea I can see how this would help. I found that the reasons I was holding on to extra weight were emotional. When I did my emotional release, the pounds dropped off and I have not regained the weight.
I’m going to try that string test and see how it comes out. I can’t wait!
What a great idea, certainly would stop me eating as much once I felt the pinch.
I have to give this test a try. Thanks for sharing!
That is a neat idea and I can totally see it working. I tend to apply the same concept when my shorts start to get too tight. 🙂
Yes, it’s hard to notice weight gain when you don’t wear your jeans all the time. Lately I’ve been wearing loose pants and that’s really not good b/c I can’t tell if my waist has gone down….and I’m on a detox right now!! This band is a great idea.
Mmmm. I have never heard of this, but I would be willing to give it a try.
what a cool idea. Motivation is always increased when you can see a noticeable change!
I have never heard about string test, its interesting and different. I am going to try this and let see how it works. Heart Plan seems to be suggesting best ideas for weight loss and all of them sounds effective.
Interesting, I’d never heard of this string test/method before. It’s certainly true that our perceptions and reality can be very different.
I’m one of those people with a very large range of weights throughout the year. Within the span of a few months I’ll go from people (usually grandma) concerned that I’m getting too thin, to people concerned at how fast I’m putting on pounds. The string test might be a good way for me to stay aware of how I’m doing at any given time.
Ha! I’m going to try this method! I’ve purchased a few clothes in the past that I couldn’t fit into just to give myself a goal. Bad idea because I never got to wear them! lol!
