Lose the Weight Loss Battle. Do You Want the Top 5 Reasons?

Lose the Weight Loss Battle.
Do You Want the Top 5 Reasons?

If you have battling your weight for years, it’s time to give up. Surrender. End the war. Let peace begin.

You see, that really is the key to permanent weight loss… ending the battle.

When you are constantly at war, when there is no peace, you get lost in the battle, and lose your ability to raise up your head and see the far horizon – when you WILL BE THINNER. And when you can’t see far enough ahead, into your own future, you get lost where you already are.

Weight loss efforts are too often spoken about employing the language of war, the soundings of endless battles, the din of combat – FIGHTING TO CONTROL YOUR WEIGHT.

Welcome Home weight loss motivationThat is where your language sucks you in to the wrong analogies. You start FEELING the words, you start BELIEVING the words, and are not able to see there is a different way.

You get locked into the language mentally and start ACTING AS IF THE WEIGHT LOSS WAR IS REAL.

You start thinking in terms of winning and losing weight loss battles.

You start relating to “being in the trenches.” The incessant drum of the words of war assault your sense of peace, and you find none. No peace, at least not on this front (see, even “this front” is a term borrowed from wars).

When you say you are at war you gather ’round you the weapons of war, the accoutrements of battle, and equip yourself for the struggles ahead. You prepare yourself daily to fight, and perhaps lose skirmishes and big battles for your weight. You never leave it behind, whether at home, at work, at restaurants, at parties, or at a friend’s house. You are vigilant to make make sure you are not surprised by having to eat something you know you shouldn’t.

With all that clang and bang and confusion of battle rattling inside your head, you lose the ability to hear yourself. You no longer have the ability to filter out what is true and right for your body. That is where your struggles get you lost, without you understanding, or intuiting, the best solutions for yourself.

You look to the battlefield ahead to see what can help you lose weight better, this time. You go from the “new breakthrough formula” to the “old familiar pills,” to your friends’ suggestions, to you wondering if the late night infomercials really do have something for you. Or perhaps that sexy woman from the TV fat loss contest really does have an approach that works.

You may come to believe that the TV star that got fat, then skinny, then fat again, then skinny again – publically telling everyone about her battles with weight – really can help you win in your battles. Could that be even a little bit true?

How can you sort out all that “war” junk and make sense of it, if you can’t hear yourself – if you can’t hear or decode your body’s signals anymore? If you can’t hear yourself well, you lose trust in your judgement, because so may things you once thought were good for your weight loss, all turned out to be worthless.

War. Battle. Weapons. Winning. Losing. Struggles.
Whew! No wonder you are tired when you wake up. Almost as tired as when you went to sleep. And you are certainly no further ahead in your ability to lose weight and keep it off permanently.

It’s time…
LAY DOWN THE WEAPONS OF THE WEIGHT LOSS WAR.

It is time to…
LOSE THE BATTLE FOR YOUR WEIGHT.

Lay down Weapons weight loss motivationTime to stop the insanity of pursuing the same weight loss “things” over and over, and never getting a better result.

Take off the implements of fighting. Drop your weapons, and come home from your war. Come home to YOU. Where you are safe and it is quiet. And peace reigns.

In a place of quiet you can hear yourself. It may be a bit unfamiliar at first, but your voice is in there. Just let your inner voice bubble to the surface. Then listen. Listen to your heart beating. It’s beating right now. Listen… … … Listen… are your listening?

Hear it?

That amazing sound is your heart beating, amidst amazing silence. Peace.

You have to begin in peace if you want to be in touch with what your body is saying about your weight loss efforts. In your place of peace, you can hear the difference between truth and B.S. When you really want to energize your weight loss efforts, peace is the only way you will ever be able to know the difference between what will work for you, and what will not.

You have an amazing body. It knows a lot.
It knows how to make you feel great when you eat healthy regularly. Your body knows when you feed it garbage. You just have to listen to it.

But, after years in the trenches, at war, struggling, fighting, winning, and ultimately losing your weight loss battles, you get disconnected from your body. It’s difficult to know when you are really hungry, or if something else is going on. It is difficult also to know how to deal with the cravings, and what to do to get rid of them. It is especially difficult to know when you are full, and understand why you can’t put down the fork, even though you know you don’t really need more food.

The war with your weight leaves scars that run deep.
Every combat veteran will tell you that the biggest, most frightening scars are the ones unseen by others – unsuspected by others – often unknown by you for many years – your very personal form of weight-loss-delayed-stress-syndrome. Like most war veterans, you won’t admit it, or don’t see it. Nevertheless it is real. And you will only be able to deal with it by leaving the war behind. Permanently. And know your private war is permanently behind you.

To a veteran, war fades slowly from memory. Your quick reflex actions of defense and aggression from the war zone are automatic for a long time. They preserved you in battle, but in a place of true peace, they are out of place, not needed, and almost always the wrong thing to do to lower your weight, and make it drop permanently.

Are you a weight loss veteran, you may ask?
Seem like an extreme analogy? Over-wrought?

No. Absolutely not. That may be difficult to see when you are still in the weight loss “war zone.” But after you have been out for a while, you will see just how difficult all those war years really were. Plus the toll it took on you emotionally, and physically.

So, at this point of time you just need to step back, see the weight-war that is being waged around you – and most crucially – within you. And accept that it is time to lose the weight loss battle. THAT is your path to VICTORY.

Boyd, a recovering Attorney, turned to weight loss research 20 years ago when he lost his mother to the lifelong effects of obesity. He has spent the ensuing years searching the science, and formulating a comprehensive metabolic map of the body — the only complete map of its kind. The map reveals the causes and effects of obesity and related chronic lifestyle diseases. It shows the only proven pathways to preventing and losing excess weight. From that unique foundation, he and his team created a weight loss education program that has helped tens of thousands to lose weight and keep it off. Plus, they created innovative and fun fitness and nutrition education programs for elementary school children, proven to reduce the early bio-markers for childhood obesity. HEART PLAN is a collection of his observations over the years of the emotional impact and motivational challenges nearly everyone faces when trying to keep lost weight off permanently.

  1. Jennifer Hiles says

I like the war analogy. I’m very competitive so this might help if I think in terms of winning. I have to agree that dieting causes weight gain. Anytime I’ve ever tried it, I obsess over how hungry I am or what I can eat next, etc. I end up giving up and indulging. A lifestyle change is what I’ve tried to adopt. I learned to give up the fads a long time ago too. Eating healthy with smaller portion and exercise, it’s the only way that works in the long term.

  2. I never thought of it that way. I think it’s crazy that so much of weight loss revolves around fads when really it should not be about fashion, rather about health.

  3. constance ralph says

I can really relate. I stopped chasing the next thing and started to exercise and eat healthier and I felt much better and happier

  4. Rebecca Swenor says

Interesting analogy. (Hope that is the right word I was looking for.) It is true though. When I wash my hands of something and give in to it all works out in the end.

  5. Karen Hinkle says

I to understand the word diet is bad I have learned to watch what I eat and extercise for me its working I will stick with it

  6. Virginia Rogers says

That is great!! Love the thoughts and comparisons to war, as I do so many days feel like battling a war. Great advice, thank you!!! 🙂

  7. Amanda Alvarado says

These are some good points! I never thought of dieting like this before…but I’ve never really dieted either. I just try to eat as healthy as I can but I have a weakness for sweets!

  8. Sometimes it pays off to take a step back and relax!

  9. Wonderful post, thank you for sharing. Very interesting and helpful at the same time.

  10. I like that.. lay down your weapons and win the battle.. very creative!

  12. wendy c g says

Very creative, I don’t do the diet thing. It doesn’t last, I’ve gained the weight back after dieting. I just eat healthy and try to exercise.

  13. This is great! Thank you for the information. Your words are sooo true!

  14. lisa jones says

Love Your Way Of Thinking I Like To Vision In My Head What Results Will Be It Keeps Me Going Thank You For Sharing!

  15. I don’t like the word diet, I like “lifestyle change”. Even if we don’t lose a pound atleast we will feel better. But I know with lifestyle change the weight will come off.

  16. Great post! I love the way you put things out there! Very interesting and helpful too!

  17. Paula Parker says

Another motivational article. I need to up my exercise game. Got sick and haven’t been back to my full work outs! Do pretty good on eating right. Thanks for the info.

  18. Great advice! Every bit is so true especially that fads.

  19. Don Purdum says

Great post – we are the sum of the thoughts we put into our heads. Our subconscious does not know truth from lies, fact from fiction, only what we put in there by how we talk to ourselves. Be careful what you say to yourself!

  20. This post is awesome for so many different reasons – thanks for sharing! For me – it was chasing diet fads – once I stopped – I got healthier.

  21. I can definitely relate to this analogy. I have been at war with my own body most of my life–until I developed diabetes and lost 30 pounds in a month–then another 30 as I learned to eat correctly! Some of it has come back on but I definitely got the diabetes under total control! Yo Yo dieting, the current fad diets and those pills they prescribe do not work in the long run. I still do not exercise-just not my thing and doubt it ever will be. But eating small portions 3 or 4 times a day of good nutritious food is the way to go!

  22. These are some great points! Keep up the good work girl. 🙂

  23. We really just need to have the discipline to have a healthier lifestyle. Eventually, we see ourselves looking and feeling better ………. it’s a lot of work but the good thing about this is, it works.

  24. Jessica Parent says

I used to fight that war but not really anymore….I have accepted food likes me and I like it but have learned that by staying active, depriving myself nothing (just eating “bad foods moderately”) and making healthier choices for my main meals and snacksI can win the battle…plus Ive learned to like me even at times Im alittle over weight

  25. I have finally stopped trying the newest diets. I have learned it isn’t going to help me.

  26. When I set up a plan for me to eat heathly and exercise I can maintain my weight nicely, when I don’t stick to eating healthy foods then the weight comes back and I have to refocus.

  27. I stopped dieting altogether..

  28. It really is crazy how many issues weight can cause within your own mind. You have ups and downs – but its important to remember that you still you. Have a good exercise plan and eat right. It can be a hard battle.

  29. I guess the short term weight loss products are not as effective as losing weight through exercise, discipline and having the right type of food.

  30. Very interesting metaphors! I don’t necessarily agree with all of your points but they are certainly well thought out.

  31. I love the analogy and the imagery with the war weapons. I love the message of surrendering, being at peace, and belief in success. Thank you for the inspiring post. I believe it is so needed!

  32. So much truth in this post! I recognize when my body is hungry, and I can usually tell when it’s had enough. With pizza, I tend to ignore the you’ve had enough signals though. Ooops!

  33. Rubbie Anne Abad says

Great article! I just eat what I like cause I never get fat huhu

  34. I love this analogy. I have not had to lose weight other than after pregnancy.

  35. michele d says

Great way of looking at loosing weight. Staying fit is something that I really need to do more of.

  36. Ralff Dizon says

What a great post. Very interesting and helpful.

  37. I found this article hit home. I think we need to stop think of “diet” and think of “lifestyle change.”

  38. Some people try to lose too much weight. There is a lower limit that your body will tolerate and sometime that lower limits still means obesity. You need to understand your body before you go to war against it.

  39. A great read. I am determined to start working out and losing weight. I am not sure why I keep feeling the need to delay starting the process. I just need to start.

  40. Great advice Thanks so much for sharing

  41. I love the analogy to war. You’re right. You will only lose the weight when you “stop dieting.”

  42. What a great article thank you so much for sharing. I love the correlation between war and weight loss. I have been fighting that war for a while now.

  43. losing wieght is def a battle, not sure if i could compare it to a war..

  44. Patricia says

I love your analogy and I hate that word diet. I look at it as a lifestyle change. Great information.

  45. Great tips and very informational. Thanks for sharing!

  46. This is so timely. I was just thinking about giving up m battle mentality.

  47. This is such great advice, and I totally agree, weight loss is about changing your lifestyle. It’s a permanent change that you need to make, not a battle.

    • It definitely takes commitment and belief in what you’re doing to change your lifestyle. I can see how so many people get caught in the back and forth.

  48. I love the pic saying you will celebrate victory. Can’t wait to say that in all aspects of my life

  49. samantha says

Very good advice and motivation. people dont understand that its a lifestyle change to loosing weight and just get caught in the vicious circle

  51. Great tips for those who are on the journey of losing weight. Thanks for sharing

  52. I definitely need to stick to my exercise plan and I need to work on eating healthier!

  53. What a moving article! It often feels like a lifelong struggle that is always winning. It is so important to find a way to be at peace with your body and still strive to be healthy. It is never productive to be at war with your body.

  54. Definitely an interesting perspective to look at it that way! It’s definitely a struggle at times to maintain a healthy weight.

  55. The hardest part for me is to stop finding excuses not to exercise. The weather is perfect, there’s no reason I shouldn’t be out walking right now.

  56. I totally agree. Trying too hard and going for the extreme weight loss stuff can be a double edge sword. Thanks for these tips

  57. This is really interesting points. Great read for me.

  58. You hit the nail on the head! It’s not a battle and it’s time to lay down our weapons. I love this sensible approach to weight loss. Well said!

  59. I don’t like the word diet, I prefer healthy lifestyle! I have learned to watch what I eat and exercise and its working! I believe weight loss needs to be a lifelong decision!

  60. I have never thought of dieting this way before. These are good points.

  61. Such great advice. Not the way I think of diet when I hear the word, but its great. In a few months I’ll be working on my diet and will have to remember all this!

  62. Good post. I never diet. I guess I don’t have to worry about losing weight, but even to stay healthy, I think it’s all about moderation and simply making healthier choices. You see all these diets out there that I feel just trick people who really do some help. It’s a little sad.

  63. I hope this post helps people struggling with poor diet and exercise routines. Making healthy choices can be tough but it is worth it!

  64. This was definitely an interesting analogy. We really tend to look dieting like a war we need to figtht. Thanks for sharing your oppinions!! 🙂

  65. I went through a really tough time with my weight after high school. I tried everything, except the hard work. Always chasing the wrong pills and fads. Great post, I finally figured out that eating right and exercising is the only way I would feel good about myself.
