Ideas to weigh less – to live life more.

by Boyd Jentzsch

Sometimes when faced squarely with a problem you want to solve, you jump right into researching it and learn all you can. You’re like a sponge. After a few long sessions with Google, you’re googled out.

weight loss motivationA few days later you remember the key points you think you’ve gleaned. But like most people, you can only hold so much new information in your brain at a time. It’s sort of like a small scratch pad with just a few pages.

Actually, most of what you learned, or could have learned, is rapidly forgotten or glossed over.

The key to learning fast is to learn slow. This is especially true when learning about weight loss. Learn in short bursts of energy. Then wait a few days. Not only will you remember more, and understand more, something magical happens.

When you go to sleep, when you “sleep on it,” all that “new” information mixes with all your “old” information. And that’s the secret to really learning. When new mixes with old, new connections occur. New ideas spring up. Contradictions between old and new appear. Insights occur.

Then, the next time you jump into learning even more “new” stuff about weight loss, you will have a different point of view to discover and understand the newest “new” things. Your next bout of weight loss research will go in different directions. More productive, less repetitive directions.

Most importantly, you comprehend the new information and YOU CAN MAKE BETTER USE OF IT.

And that is the secret to making a new weight loss lifestyle change stick.

Do you want to make your new lifestyle stick? Be a slow learner.

Would having your new weight loss lifestyle stick make your day lighter?

Boyd, a recovering Attorney, turned to weight loss research 20 years ago when he lost his mother to the lifelong effects of obesity. He has spent the ensuing years searching the science, and formulating a comprehensive metabolic map of the body — the only complete map of its kind. The map reveals the causes and effects of obesity and related chronic lifestyle diseases. It shows the only proven pathways to preventing and losing excess weight. From that unique foundation, he and his team created a weight loss education program that has helped tens of thousands to lose weight and keep it off. Plus, they created innovative and fun fitness and nutrition education programs for elementary school children, proven to reduce the early bio-markers for childhood obesity. HEART PLAN is a collection of his observations over the years of the emotional impact and motivational challenges nearly everyone faces when trying to keep lost weight off permanently.

  1. That’s an interesting way to approach weight loss! Sometimes you do need time to think on it and see how it will work for you and then implement when you’re ready.

  2. Patience is the key to weight loss. This is a great approach to weight loss… letting the knowledge sink in.

  3. A sense of self would really help a lot if people would like to lose weight. And I believe losing weight is not just to make your physical attributes look better, you do it for the people you love because you want to be with them for as long as it lasts.

  4. I agree the key to learning fast is to learn slow. You have to take it slow and absorb the lessons of weight loss.

  5. Masshole Mommy says

I’ve lost quite a bit of weight and I work hard to keep it off.

  6. “Slow Learning” is the key to true knowledge in anything. I wish schools would learn this lesson. Rapid learning equals rapid memory loss of what you learned–obviously I agree with you.

  7. Very interesting point of view on learning, relating to anything.

  8. Interesting points. I think slow learning is best as well, though I never thought about losing weight in that way.

  9. I think a combination of fast and slow learning depending on the subject is better. Some of us can easily digest one subject, but have problems understanding others. For me, I have a pretty good photographic memory, and able to recall a lot of things very quickly. It doesn’t mean I know everything, but I love learning and will devour it quickly or savor it slowly.

  10. I think everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way.

  11. Yes, with weight loss slow and steady wins the race. 🙂

  12. Learning slow and carefully is really the key. We are often bombarded with too many data and it’s hard to analyze which info we need to grasp. What would constitute to slow weight loss?

  13. I am obsessed with that picture! HAHAHA!

  14. I like the idea of learning through sleep, letting you mind work, hadn’t really thought about that before.

  16. I love how you look at weight loss, such a different but correct way to look at it. Everyone is different but I think patience is key and dont let your mind play games with you. Keep on chipping away at it.

  17. I have been more likely to keep the weight off if I lost iy in a normal slower way. I think long term it is easier to commit to.

  18. YOu definitely can’t rush a healthier lifestyle. If you lose it all too fast and dont make permanent changes to your life you will just gain it back anyhow.

  19. patience and discipline is the key. 🙂

  20. Slow and steady wins the race. 🙂

  23. Thanks for the post. I need to slow down with my learning, so true!

  24. My dad died young from a heart attack. I worry about my lifestyle and that I will die young as well. I need to get in better shape!

  25. Ha ha!! I love the man with the pipe and the quote! Makes me smile everytime. Knowing your body is so important and the way you live your lifestyle. Life is a marathon not a sprint.

  26. I second what Aisha Kristine Chong says!

  27. Melissa Smith says

I never really thought of it this way, but it really does make lots of sense. I wonder how much more I can lose if I take the time to learn.

  28. I love the picture lol. I agree we can only hold so much new info. 🙂 Makes a lot of sense!

  29. I like to say find one new habit you want to make. Do it for 21 days then add a habit. Even when trying to lose weight this works.

  30. It’s true that being too gung ho can hurt you. Taking things slow will allow you to do things right the first time, which is often faster than doing things incorrectly several times before you get it right.

  31. Thank you, maybe if I use this approach…it will help me get to my destination health goals.

  32. LOVE the picture but it is so true! Doing it the right way is the quickest way.

  33. I totally understand this, you can’t rush many things especially weight loss!

  34. I understand this, however have a hard time with implementing. Patience is the one thing I lack when it comes to weight loss:(

  35. I’d love to make a change and have it stick. This is something I need to work on!

  36. Great tip! Changing overnight seems to be unsuccessful (for me) in a lifestyle change. Daily improvements seem to be more effective.
